ROOF Fat Dissolution / Removal
A solution that goes one step beyond conventional orbital fat removal by selectively removing ROOF fat as well
ROOF Fat Solution
Eyelid fat has a two-layer structure: orbital fat and ROOF fat (Retro-Orbicularis Oculi Fat, the fat behind the orbicularis oculi muscle).
When there is too much fat in the eyelid, the eyelid looks puffy and can give a heavy, closed-in look. Conventionally, upper eyelid fat is reduced by removing orbital fat through an incision, but removing orbital fat alone has limited effect on upper eyelid fullness.
The ROOF Fat Solution goes one step beyond conventional orbital fat removal, offering three surgical methods that allow ROOF fat to be selectively removed as well. Because the solution can be tailored precisely to each upper eyelid case, it creates slimmer eyes and a clearer double eyelid line.

Surgery Information
Surgery Information-
Surgery time About 30 minutes
-
Anesthesia Sedation
-
Hospitalization Not required
-
Stitch removal After 1 day
-
Follow-up visits 1 visit
-
Recovery period After 5–7 days
May vary depending on the patient's condition and the surgical method.
Surgical Method
Because ROOF fat lies in a different location from orbital fat, beneath the muscle around the eye, its removal should be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon with a deep understanding of anatomy and extensive expertise.
If too much fat is removed from above the eye, the eyelid can look sunken, so it is important to determine the right amount to remove through consultation.

- The eyelids feel heavy
- The double eyelid line looks buried in the eyelid
- Puffy upper eyelid fat remains after orbital fat removal
ROOF Fat Dissolution / Removal Q&A
-
Does ROOF fat removal make the double eyelid more defined?Yes! ROOF fat removal takes away the excess fat built up above the eye, making the double eyelid line more defined. When the upper eyelid is thick, the double eyelid line may be covered by skin and hard to see even when it is there. Removing ROOF fat makes the eyes look deeper and clearer, so the double eyelid line can settle naturally. Combined with double eyelid surgery in particular, it can create even more defined eyes!
-
Can ROOF fat removal make the eyes look sunken? If too much fat is removed, the eyes can look sunken, or the hollowing can worsen later with aging. ROOF fat is not simply unnecessary fat; it also helps maintain volume above the eye, so it is important to remove only the right amount. Removing too much can lead to side effects such as hollow-looking eyes or an older appearance. Removing a carefully adjusted amount improves the eyes naturally.
-
Can fat build up again after ROOF fat removal?Once removed, fat does not grow back, but the area above the eye can thicken again with aging or weight gain. The fat cells themselves are gone, but significant weight gain can enlarge the surrounding fat and thicken the upper eyelid again. Also, as aging progresses, sagging skin can make the area above the eye look heavy again.
