Canthoplasty
to more open, clearer eyes!
A surgery that opens up small, closed-in-looking eyes, creating a soft, open look
Dual Canthoplasty
Dual canthoplasty can improve the size and shape of the eyes more dramatically, and it includes medial, lateral, lower, and upper canthoplasty.
Medial epicanthoplasty is used when the eyes are far apart; lateral canthoplasty when the eyes are close together or the outer corners turn up; lower canthoplasty when a softer look is wanted; and upper canthoplasty when you want the inner corner opened up further.

Medial Epicanthoplasty
An incision is made along the shape of the inner corner, the skin is dissected, and the epicanthal fold is repositioned or removed. -

At the point where the upper and lower eyelids meet at the outer corner, the ligament that holds the shape of the eye is cut horizontally and fixed to the periosteum. -

Soft, gentle eyes
Lower Canthoplasty
The conjunctiva inside the outer corner is incised, the outer corner is lowered as much as desired, then fixed and sutured. -
04
Refined, defined eyes
Upper Canthoplasty
The skin covering the inner corner where the epicanthal fold lies is lifted at a 45-degree angle so that the double eyelid line is visible all the way from the inner corner.

Canthoplasty Q&A
-
Does canthoplasty really make the eyes bigger?Yes! Canthoplasty extends the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the eyes to create a more open, larger-looking eye shape. It can be performed on its own, but combining it with double eyelid surgery or ptosis correction can create even more open, defined eyes!
-
After canthoplasty, "can it close up again?"Yes, during recovery after canthoplasty, part of the opening can close up again (re-adhesion). With medial and lateral canthoplasty in particular, some tissue can re-adhere over time, so a technique to prevent re-adhesion is important. When an experienced specialist applies a design and surgical method that take adhesion prevention into account, the results can last longer. Early aftercare matters, so it is important to follow the clinic's instructions closely!

With canthoplasty, "I'm worried my eyes will look harsh or awkward."With the right design, canthoplasty can create natural, soft eyes! Opening too much can give a harsh or artificial impression, so if you want a natural change, it is important to use a customized design that fits your eye structure. Combining lateral and lower canthoplasty can create soft, open eyes without harshness. Choose a customized design to match the look you want (soft vs. defined eyes)!
